Readings from Biblical Scripture and The Quran compiled by the Hoda Islamic Center
From Hebrew Scripture
– "The Sh’ma. Deuteronomy 6:4-5 Hear O Israel: the Lord is our God, the Lord alone is One. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.” Leviticus 19:18 “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
From Christian Scripture Matthew 22: “Jesus answered, “the first is, ‘Hear O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Love your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this. ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other greater commandment than these.”
From the Quran Love of God “Say: O People of the Scripture! Come to a common word between us and you: that we shall worship none but God, and that we shall ascribe no partner unto Him, and that none of us shall take others for lords beside God. And if they turn away, then say: Bear witness that we are they who have surrendered (unto Him).” (Aal ‘Imran 3:64)
Love of Neighbor It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces to the East and the West; but righteous is he who believeth in God and the Last Day and the angels and the Scripture and the prophets; and giveth wealth, for love of Him, to kinsfolk and to orphans and the needy and the wayfarer, and to those who ask, and who set slaves free."A Common Work For Scripture
The whole of the First Commandment is all about how and when to Respect and LOVE Yourself. Jesus is teaching us how to love and the first is to love thyself and then to lover others. The First Two are linked together together because they are important to each other. We have to have both of these to check ourselves and be overly loving of either one of them. If either one of them are taken out of context and used to think that you are better or know more or love more or think your religion is the only truth, then that is when problems arise because you are not taking the second commandment seriously and using only the first one as you rule.
I do not know of many people that even understand this and are in different places using different holy books and claiming that they are the truth and that is it.
Put no other Gods before you. It is said in the Bible three times that we are Gods,Psalm 82:6, Isaiah 41:23, John 10:34 so treat yourself like one. If you don't you will find problems with people around you and your SELF-Esteem and you need those all the time. I know that many do not understand this either and say that they are not a God. Red the verses to yourself and by yourself and then see the meaning. It does not tell you to be obnoxious or arrogant, but to love your SELF because you are a God to yourself and nobody else.
Take care of yourself and have respect for yourself.
Do the simple things, like a clean body is the utmost that God is telling you. You are a God so act and be like one.
